Dr. Ganping Ju is the Chief Media Technologist at the Seagate Recording Media R&D center in Fremont, California. He and his team focus on next-generation recording innovations, including HAMR (Heat-Assisted Magnetic Recording) and beyond.

After earning his Ph.D. in Physics (ultrafast spin dynamics) from Brown University in 1999, Dr. Ju joined Seagate Research, where he pioneered the magnetic, materials, and thermal design enabling HAMR Media. He later transitioned to the Media Research Center to mature these technologies for productization.

Dr. Ju has co-authored over 100 publications and holds over 50 patents, primarily related to HAMR. Dr. Ju is a highly active member of the technical community, serving on the Program Committee for Intermag and holding leadership roles (e.g., Co-chair, Program Co-chair) for the TMRC conference, in addition to leading technical committees for recording industry consortiums.
