After undergraduate studies at Technical University of Munich and Trinity College, The University of Cambridge, Max did his Ph.D. work at Princeton University in the group of Phuan Ong, followed by two years as a postdoctoral researcher at RIKEN Center for Emergent Matter Science (Japan). Since autumn 2021, Max leads an independent research group as Associate Professor in Applied Physics at The University of Tokyo. Max has explored, and is exploring, topics related to charge and heat transport in solids: ranging from early work on thermal Hall effects in frustrated magnets, observation of the chiral anomaly in three-dimensional Weyl and Dirac semimetals, to the discovery of novel topological spin textures. He was recently selected for Fellowships by the Murata Foundation, Fujimori Foundation, Mizuho Foundation, Iketani Foundation, and Yamada Foundation.
