13th Joint MMM-Intermag Conference

The 2016 Joint Magnetism and Magnetic Materials (MMM)/Intermag Conference was held from January 11 to 15 at the Hilton Bayfront Hotel in San Diego, California. It was the 13th time that these two premier conferences in magnetism had joined together to offer a comprehensive conference spanning the full range of magnetism from basic research to engineering applications. The Conference was co-sponsored by the American Institute of Physics Publishing and by the IEEE Magnetics Society. The field of magnetism and magnetic materials is strong and continues to grow, as reflected in the more than 1800 Conference registrants, including more than 500 students. Participants attended from 50 countries, with around 54% from Asia, 25% from America, and 21% from Europe. From a record 3012 abstracts submitted, a total of 1813 abstracts were accepted for presentation, with Spintronics, Sensors and Magnetization Dynamics being the most subscribed categories. Papers were presented in 77 oral sessions and in 77 poster sessions. There were eight symposia covering topics in antiferromagnetic spintronics, room temperature skyrmions, challenges in heat-assisted magnetic recording, Heusler compounds, permanent magnet applications, organic spintronics, nanoparticle characterization, and spin orbit and exchange interactions.
