Request for Proposals to organize Magnetic Frontiers 2026 in an APPLIED topic of magnetism
We are currently soliciting proposals to organize the next Magnetic Frontiers conference, expected to take place in 2026. The topical focus for 2026 is an emerging APPLIED topic of magnetism. Furthermore, the 2026 Magnetic Frontiers conference will follow the same format as previous conferences which focused on facilitating significant and fruitful interactions between and amongst established high-profile scientists in the area and early career researchers.
Magnetic Frontiers is the premier series of small conferences initiated and sponsored by the IEEE Magnetic Society, which is exclusively focused on emerging aspects of fundamental and applied magnetism. The Magnetic Frontiers conferences alternate between fundamental and applied topics. Previous conferences covered Topological Insulators (Nancy, 2017), Magnetic Sensors (Lisbon, 2019), Quantum Technologies (Orlando, 2023), Magnetic Materials and Motors for Green Energy Applications (Darmstadt, 2024), and Altermagnetism (Liblice, 2025). The conference series provides a range of plenary and invited talks delivered by key researchers in the field as well as oral and poster presentations. As the topic is focused on an emerging area of magnetism, the conference provides a unique environment for researchers to communicate and discuss the latest developments in magnetism with the leading scientists.
Proposals:
Proposals should include a description of the topic and why this is appropriate now, a proposed organizational committee (and confirmed general chair), proposed dates and location, potential invited speakers including an overview of the general program (general layout of when posters are vs. oral and invited talks), and a proposed budget (total expenses, sources of revenue, and itemized estimates of expenses). Specific requirements include:
- The invited speakers can be supported only if they are members of the IEEE Magnetics Society in 2026.
- The IEEE Magnetics Society will expect a perspective paper related to the conference lead by the main organizer which can involve selected participants/invited speakers. The manuscript should be submitted to IEEE Magnetics Letters within 60 days of the end of the conference. The IEEE Magnetics Society also encourages the conference participants to submit papers to IEEE Magnetics Letters.
- The IEEE Magnetics Society will financially sponsor approximately USD 20K (budget permitting) and will expect the organizers to seek other sources to match this amount.
- The Society expects the organizers to include lunch and at least one dinner event in their program that is included in the registration (free), so that the participants can network and discuss among themselves.
